The Grand Canyon was my initial inspiration. I began painting while guiding two-week
river trips in one of the most beautiful places I had ever experienced. In the fleeting
moments of solitude, I pull out my little watercolor set, sketch an image, and attempt to
capture the grand landscape. Now, I walk in the wildlands with my eyes squinted to help me
see the colors that I will use in my next painting.
Other places are equally inspiring: the Caribbean, Hawaii coastlines,
Lake Tahoe, and the rolling mountains of the Gila Wilderness.
